Did you know that when you are arrested for DUI, you will automatically lose your license? This is called an Administrative License Suspension. If your blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08 percent or higher or you refused to take a chemical test when asked by the officer, he or she can take your license at the scene. If this is your first offense, your license will be suspended for seven days. If this is your second offense, the suspension will last for 60 days or until your court date (whichever date comes first).
This license suspension is separate from any criminal charges you may be facing. Even for a first offense, you can be sentenced to jail time, expensive fines, mandatory “DUI School,” and a longer license suspension.
Besides the criminal fines, you can also face problems in your personal life. With more companies requiring a clean driving record and/or criminal background, you are at risk of losing your current job or finding future employment. You will also face an increase in your car insurance rates, as well as points on your license.
